The Soprintendenza per i Beni Architettonici, per il Paesaggio e per il Patrimonio Storico, Artistico ed Etnoantropologico di Venezia e Laguna is a peripheral section of the Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali and carries out institutional activities in the municipalities in its area (Venice, Quarto d’Altino, Musile di Piave, Jesolo, Cavallino-Treporti, Mira, Campagna Lupia, Codevigo, Chioggia).

These activities are, above all, relative to preservation and care, through monitoring, regulation of legislative purviews, activities relative to construction and management of the territory, such as the maintenance and restoration of buildings subject to planning restrictions, environmental and landscape modifications, and examination of the General Regulatory Plan.

The Soprintendenza also carries out the following institutional tasks:

  • knowledge of the territory: cataloguing and informational entries
  • planning and direction of restoration jobs with ministerial financing
  • planning and direction of restoration jobs with financing from private committees for the preservation of Venice
  • didactic: bulletin of the Soprintendenza, guided tours of job sites, conferences, meetings, and exhibitions.
