THE DATA BANK OF THE DRAWINGS IN THE CARLO SCARPA DIGITAL ARCHIVE

Starting with the systematic collection of all the sources, the aim of the Carlo Scarpa Digital Archive is to virtually reassemble works and documentary materials allowing comparative studies to be made of them.
The information system will have a series of thematic databases with:

  • register of the works
  • graphic body
  • historic and current photographic documentation
  • audiovisuals with witness interviews
  • architectural reliefs of the buildings
  • construction techniques and materials used
  • biographies of the architect and his associates
  • complete bibliography enriched with difficult to find articles
Every thematic database is designed to integrate with the others in order to make up the Carlo Scarpa Digital Archive, an effective tool for research, conservation and appreciation.

The online archive was implemented from a first nucleus of the information system containing the databases of drawings in the Castelvecchio Museum Collection with the digitalisation and cataloguing of the drawings from the Zanon, Cappellin, Bernini and other private archives, purchased by the Regione Veneto and deposited at the Castelvecchio Museum for their conservation and appreciation. The implementation project includes the online consultation of Carlo Scarpa’s drawings acquired by the Ministry of Culture held at the Carlo Scarpa Study Centre at the Treviso State Archive, by the digitalisation and cataloguing of the drawings for the Villa Ottolenghi and the Banca Popolare.

Drawings will also be included from other public collections in Italy and abroad, such as the Fondazione Querini Stampalia and the Gallerie dell’Accademia in Venice, the Galleria Regionale di Sicilia in Palermo, the Gipsoteca Canoviana in Possagno and the Centre Pompidou in Paris.

Non dovranno mancare i disegni di altre collezioni pubbliche italiane e straniere quali la Fondazione Querini Stampalia e le Gallerie dell’Accademia di Venezia, la Galleria Regionale di Sicilia a Palermo, la Gipsoteca Canoviana di Possagno, e il Centre Pompidou di Parigi.
